The Story of Mean Mead
Before wine was worshipped and beer was bottled, there was mead.
It’s the oldest known alcohol… born from nothing more than honey, water, and time. Ancient kings drank it. Poets praised it. Warriors toasted with it after battle. Every civilization that ever encountered bees eventually discovered mead, like it was written into human instinct.
So why did we forget it?
Probably because mead got a bad reputation. Somewhere along the way, it was pushed to the sidelines—relegated to Renaissance fairs and sweet syrupy misfires that did the original no justice. But we never stopped thinking about it.
At Reefer Brewing, we’re obsessed with craft—especially the kind that connects us to something deeper. We built our reputation on crisp, coastal beers, but we wanted to create something that had more myth in the bottle. Something sophisticated. Something mean.
That’s where Mean Mead was born.
We didn’t want to revive mead. We wanted to redefine it.
Not medieval. Not sugary. And definitely not boring. We envisioned mead the way it was meant to be—raw, elemental, and dangerously drinkable—but brought forward with modern edge and clean design. Think modern luxury meets ancient tradition.
So we created two:
Everyday Glow

Midnight Honey
Crafted once a year. Worth every second.
This is our crown jewel. A barrel-aged, once-a-year masterpiece that shows off what mead can really be. Bold wildflower honey, layered with dark fruit, oak, and a slow, warming finish. Bottled only in small runs, built for celebration, and designed to be collected.
So why mead?
